What are base durations?
Last Update:Feb 25 2022 1:30pm
Now that you filled in all the information for the zones, you may wonder how the system calculates the right amount of water for your plants. This article shows how duration and frequency are defined by the attributes set by the user.
Base Zone Durations
Once you have finalized entering in your zone attributes (vegetation, soil, nozzle type, and slope) the Rachio will create an initial watering time based on the data provided. Sometimes a selected zone attribute can be incorrect and throw off the calculation. It's important to double-check the zone attributes, in particular your vegetation and nozzle selections, as these two attributes impact watering durations the most:
- The vegetation selection determines your root zone depth; an important factor in calculating watering durations. Double-check & edit your root zone depth via the Advanced Zone Settings if the default values are incorrect.
- The default nozzle precipitation rates are averages and can vary pending on your system’s setup and layout. A catch cup test might be needed to calculate your actual nozzle precipitation rates.
