Inaccurate Skips and Extreme Weather Conditions
Last Update:Feb 22 2022 6:42pm • Est. Read Time:Est. Read Time: 2 MINSummary
Extreme weather conditions (such as hurricanes or tornadoes, for example) not only cause forecasts to change a lot and have strange values, but it may also cause the Weather Stations to report bad data as strong winds (and even debris) can cause a lot of issues since it will vary a lot.
Due to these extreme weather conditions, our weather provider may delay the delivery of information if the reports fail quality control. We currently evaluate temperature, dew point, humidity, and wind values when determining whether or not an observation passes quality control. For example, any reports above 24 inches or 600 millimetres causes our system to assume it's bad data and it won't skip.
Regrettably, the system does depend on the weather stations and, sometimes, they may report bad forecasts.
Solution
After the extreme weather conditions pass and you're still having inaccurate data or skips, a suggestion is to ensure your controller is registered at your actual location, sometimes they report bad forecasts due to a not precise location. I kindly invite you to follow our Help Center article: How do I update my controller's location or zip code?
Another suggestion is to select a single weather station for the controller to receive information from, as in some cases, an individual station can be more accurate. Please refer to the following article for more information on how to switch to a Personal Weather Station: How do I select my preferred Weather Station?
