Looking to upgrade from a Generation 2 Smart Sprinkler Controller to a Rachio 3?
Our Rachio 3 controller was designed with easy installation in mind. If you already have a Generation 2 on the wall, installing the Rachio 3 is even easier! You can transfer your settings, use the same mounting holes, and take advantage of our streamlined hardware that makes inserting and removing both faceplate and wires a snap!
Several thoughtful hardware changes make the Rachio 3 installation an all-around easier experience:
The wiring bay is now one long, color-coded strip for easy wire and zone identification. For tips on wiring, go here.
The screw holes on the Rachio 3 are in the same place as the screw holes for the Generation 2, so it's easy to swap a Generation 2 with a Rachio 3. This also means the Rachio 3 is compatible with Generation 2 outdoor enclosures.
Easy-press connectors in the wiring bay can be compressed with just a fingertip - no screwdriver needed! Simply lift up the lever, insert the wire, and release.
Rachio 3 has bigger wiring terminals to accommodate a wider range of wire gauges (14-22 AWG).
- Enhanced Wi-Fi technology means the Rachio 3 allows for dual band setup; the controller can now connect to 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, blended, and mesh networks!
- The Rachio 3 user guide (included with every controller purchase) comes with a handy mounting template with the holes pre-marked for easy drywall mounting! If you're upgrading from a Generation 2 but installing in a new location, the mounting template is a great time-saver.
