Using an Android phone? Are you experiencing trouble getting your Generation 2 Controller online? Don't stress. Here are some tips to connect your controller to the Wi-fi network!
Troubleshooting Steps
- If you’ve tried connecting your controller but it failed to connect the first time, your controller will be a remembered network on your phone. You can delete the controller from your network's list to clear it from the phone's settings as an AP.
- Forget 5G networks.
- Turn off mobile data or disable Android Smart Network Switch if applicable (see below for more information) - if in doubt, turn on airplane mode and turn on WiFi.
- Turn off Auto Sync.
- Turn on location.
- Force close the Rachio app & restart it.
- Power Cycle the Rachio controller and perform a factory reset (option 2) - How do I factory reset my controller? (Generation 2)
What is Android Smart Network Switch?
Smart Network Switch is a feature on Android phones that allows your phone to automatically switch between WiFi and the mobile network. It was designed to enhance your mobile browsing experience.
How do I turn it off?
To disable Smart Network Switch, go to Apps > Settings > WiFi > More > Smart network switch. Then tap “Off” to disable. For screenshots, please see this 3rd party support article.
NOTE
Make sure the WiFi password and serial number entry are correct (this is an important step on Android as the phone will collect both pieces of data before pushing to the controller) otherwise the process will fail.
Reference the Light Codes you're seeing to determine if the controller is having issues joining your network (Light Two), connecting to the internet (Light Three), or connecting to Rachio's cloud (Light Four).
