Troubleshooting Power issues
Last Update:Feb 25 2022 1:20pm • Est. Read Time:Est. Read Time: 2 MINYou went to check the Rachio controller and it doesn't show any lights on. What to do? You may have a power issue. This article helps identify if the power issue lies on the power adapter with a multimeter. Check it out!
The first thing we need to check is if the outlet the controller is plugged into is working. You can use another device, such as a phone charger to check.
If everything seems to be working and you have a multimeter we can use to test the power adapter, follow these instructions:
- Set the multimeter to AC volts. It cannot be DC.
- If the meter doesn’t say VAC, it might be just ~V
- Also, if the meter is not auto-ranging, set it to 200 volts
- Be extra careful not to touch the probes, as they will be energized. Get one probe into the barrel and the other touching the outside of the connector
- We expect it to show 24 to 30 volts
Below you can see a picture that illustrates how the multimeter should be setup:
If the multimeter detects between 24 to 30 volts, your power adapter is working, which means you probably have something wrong with the unit. In this case, please reach out to our support team with a copy of the purchase receipt for the warranty claim.
In case the multimeter detects something that is not in between 24 to 30 volts, you have a defective power adapter. You can reach out to our support team for a replacement one.
