## Summary

If you have a Rachio device that plugs into a standard AC outlet and all the status lights are off, you may be experiencing a power issue. This article will provide some basic power issues troubleshooting.

#### Note

The first thing we need to check is if the outlet that the Rachio device is plugged into is working. You can use another device, such as a phone charger to make sure the outlet is working.

If the outlet seems to be working and the Rachio device has an integrated power supply (like the Smart Lighting Controller), there may be a problem with the device itself. In this case, please reach out to our support team with your findings so we can assist with additional troubleshooting and check the warranty status of your device.

If the Rachio device has a removable power supply (like the Smart Sprinkler Controller, or Hose Timer Hub), we can use a multimeter to test the power adapter. Grab your multimeter and follow the instructions below:

1. First, identify if the power adapter is AC or DC: AC adapters will say "AC" or display the "V~" symbol. Adapters that convert power to DC will say "DC" or display the "⎓" symbol.
2. On the multimeter, set the dial to 200 in the appropriate section (either V~ or V⎓). Some meters are auto-ranging - in this case just set the dial to the appropriate section (either V~ or V⎓).
3. Be extra careful not to touch the probes, as they will be energized. Place one probe into the barrel connector of the adapter and the other touching the outside of the barrel connector.
4. For AC adapters (Smart Sprinkler Controllers), we expect the meter to read ~24 to 30 volts. For DC adapters (Hose Timer Hubs) we expect the meter to read approximately 5 volts even.

Below you can see a picture that illustrates how the meter probes should contact the barrel connector when testing an AC power supply:

If the multimeter detects within the expected range, your power adapter is working normally, and the Rachio device itself may have a problem. In this case, please reach out to our support team with your findings so we can assist with additional troubleshooting and check the warranty status of your device.
