# Summary

This article will guide you to transfer your settings from an old Rachio Sprinkler Controller to a new Rachio Sprinkler controller when upgrading or replacing. The Rachio 3 was designed for a quick and simple setup, allowing you to easily transfer your zone and schedule settings.

**Note:** 

When transferring settings to a new controller, do not remove your old controller from your account until the transfer process is complete. Ensure that your new controller supports the same number of zones, or more, than your existing controller to secure a successful settings transfer. Here are some examples:  
  

4-zone controllers → 4, 6, 8, 12, or 16 zones

6-zone controllers → 6, 8, 12, or 16 zones

8-zone controllers → 8, 12, or 16 zones

12-zone controllers → 12 or 16 zones

16-zone controllers → 16 zones only

## **Transfering Settings**

****1.** Start by adding the new controller with the "+ADD".** 

****2.** During the setup process, you'll have a prompt to transfer settings from an old Rachio controller.**

****3.** To transfer, select "Transfer Settings" and then select the controller settings you wish to copy. If, for some reason, you skipped the transfer settings option, please contact us.**
