# Rain Sensors

Rachio requires a "normally closed" (NC) rain sensor, which interrupts the common wire when activated. Rachio supports BOTH wired and wireless rain sensors such as:

*   Basic Wired Rain Sensor
* Hunter Rain-Clik Wireless Rain Sensor
* RAIN BIRD WR2 Wireless Rain Sensor
*   Toro Wireless Rain Sensor
*   Irritrol Wireless Rain Sensor
*   Orbit Wireless Rain Sensor

# Flow Sensor - Wired & Wireless

Flow sensors monitor the flow of water running through a pipe; this allows the controller to record and report your sprinkler's actual water consumption in gallons. Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controllers are compatible with the following flow sensors:

**EVERYDROP\***

*   1004-EX
*   1104-EX \*Cost/performance leader in wired flowmeters

**FLOWMEC**

*   QS200-10 Sch 40
*   QS200-10 Sch 80

**FLOMEC**

*   QS100-10 Sch-80
*   QS200-15 Sch 40
*   QS200-15 Sch 80
*   QS200-20 Sch 40
*   QS200-20 Sch 80
*   QS200-30 Sch 40
*   QS200-30 Sch 80
*   QS200-40 Sch 40
*   QS200-40 Sch 80

**BADGER**

#### Note

The Rachio Generation 1 Smart Sprinkler Controller is not compatible with wired flow sensors.

### FloLogic Compatibility

The FloLogic System identifies leaks when they start, as small as 1/2-ounce-per-minute, stopping them automatically to protect property and alerting you through the app. The device works like a master valve and a flow meter at the same time.

Rachio does not have an app integration with FloLogic and **won't be able to receive any flow data from FloLogic.** However, it can provide power to operate the FloLogic as a master valve.

In order to connect the FloLogic to a Rachio controller, simply connect FloLogic's solenoid (referred to as a relay) to the M and C terminals on the controller.

Once FloLogic has been connected, enable the Rachio controller's Master Valve feature in the Rachio app.

In order to activate the master Valve from the app, select the Rachio controller in the app, then select Settings at the bottom of the screen and Advanced Wiring (M Terminal). Be sure to select Master Valve, and the FloLogic should be good to go!

In case further assistance is needed with the installation of the FloLogic, we can refer to the [installation manual](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0840/5699/8197/files/Installation-and-Setup-v6-06.23-FINAL.pdf) on page 18 where we can see a diagram of how it should be wired.

# Soil Sensors

Similar to Rain Sensors, the Rachio Controller is compatible with most soil sensors. Several compatible soil sensors are listed below.[](mailto:support@rachio.com)

*   RAIN BIRD SMRT-Y Sensor
*   Toro Soil Sensor

# Sensors FAQ

1. **What if I have a Rachio Gen 1?**
The Generation 1 controller can only use a single rain sensor or a normally closed soil sensor. The Generation 1 cannot read flow sensors or use two sensors.

2. **Can I use a Flow Sensor and a Rain Sensor at the same time?**
Yes, you can! On the Generation 2 and Rachio 3 you may use a flow sensor and a rain sensor at the same time. Just wire one to each "S" terminal and select accordingly in the mobile app. The common wire for both will be in the same terminal (SC or 24VAC-), so be sure they can fit.

3. **I have two backflows. Can I use two flow sensors at the same time?**
Yes, but there is one limitation: you cannot mix wireless and wired flow sensors. The Generation 2 accepts up to two wired flow meters. The Rachio 3 can work with two Wireless Flow Meters or two wired flow meters. You cannot install one wireless and one wired on the R3.

4. **How does Rachio use rain sensors?**
Rain sensors are useful as a sort of "insurance policy" against inaccurate data from your local weather station(s). Unlike Rachio's Rain Skip feature, however, a schedule skip due to an activated rain sensor does not get recorded as rain savings.

The Rachio does not need a rain sensor to operate, but the unit can take the input from existing rain sensors - interrupting the \[common wire\] signal.

Rachio's Weather Intelligence features take a broader view of the weather, factoring in the last time the sprinkler system ran, the amount of precipitation since the last time the system ran, the temperature that affects evaporation, forecast for precipitation rates until the next time your system can run, seasonality, and more. **A rain sensor can help but is strictly supplemental.**
