### Step-by-Step Onboarding:

1.  Plug in your controller and ensure the LED light begins blinking yellow.

2.  Open the Rachio app on your Android or iOS device.
3.  From the Devices screen, tap "+" to add a new device and select Lighting Controller.

4.  Open the controller’s front plate. Then tap “Scan QR Code” in the app and scan the QR code using your device.
5.  Read and follow the in-app prompts to connect the Smart Lighting Controller to the Rachio App.
6.  Once connected, the LED will turn solid green, indicating a successful setup.

### Tips:

*   Your mobile device **must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network** you want the controller to join.
*   **Make sure Bluetooth and Location Services are enabled** on your mobile device.
*   Some Matter hubs are always looking for new Matter devices to add to their network. If your mobile device automatically prompts you to pair SLC before beginning the connection process in the Rachio app, cancel the prompt, and continue in the Rachio app.

    Automate lighting based on time of day, including support for sunset/sunrise using your location. You can set start/stop times, offset those times up to 2 hours before or after sunset and sunrise, and choose specific days of the week for each automation to run.
*   **Areas**  
    Group multiple Smart Lighting Controller zones together under a single “Area,” allowing for coordinated control, and shared automations across zones and on different devices.

    View live wattage usage and receive email notifications for key events—like an offline controller, or overload and temperature warnings.

#### Device doesn’t appear in the app after onboarding

*   If the controller's LED is solid green, it is connected to Rachio, or another Matter platform.
*   Refresh the Rachio App to see if the SLC appears.
*   If it does not appear, it's likely the SLC is already connected to a different Matter-enabled smart home app (Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, etc.)

#### Wi-Fi connection issues

*   Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4GHz or 5GHz and that your phone (and Matter Hub if applicable) is on the same network during setup.
*   Power-cycle the controller, or use the app to reconnect it to Wi-Fi if the connection drops.

#### Controller not responding or appears offline

*   Check your home’s Wi-Fi router and internet connection.
*   Try rebooting the controller by unplugging it and plugging it back in.

*   **Can I use the Smart Lighting Controller indoors or in a covered structure?**  
    Yes. While the SLC is designed and rated for outdoor use, it can also be installed in garages, sheds, or other covered areas.
*   **Is the SLC weatherproof out of the box, or does it need an enclosure?**  
    The controller is weather-resistant and IP65-rated for outdoor use. No additional enclosure is required—even in rainy or snowy environments.
*   **Does the controller store automations if my Wi-Fi goes out temporarily?**  
    Yes. Once your automations are saved in the controller, they will continue to run even if Wi-Fi is unavailable. However, remote access and real-time control through the app will require an active internet connection.

### Product Compatibility

*   **What types of lighting systems are compatible with the SLC?**  
    The SLC works with low-voltage (12V–15V) landscape lighting systems. It supports LED, halogen, and incandescent bulbs, provided the total wattage remains within supported limits.
*   **Can I use both LED and halogen lights with the controller?**  
    Yes. You can mix bulb types within your system, as long as each bulb is compatible with your transformer voltage and within the zone’s power capacity. The same bulbs should be used within each individual Zone.
*   **What is the total wattage limit for each zone and for the whole controller?**  
    Each controller supports up to three zones and a combined total of 200 watts. There is no per-zone wattage cap, as long as the combined total across all active zones does not exceed 200W.

*   **How many zones does the SLC support?**  
    Each controller supports three individually controlled zones, with separate wiring terminals for each.
*   **Can I use the app to control multiple controllers at different locations?**  
    Yes. The Rachio app supports multiple controllers across one or more properties. You can manage them all from a single account and switch between property locations within the app.
*   **What’s the difference between a Scene, an Automation, and an Area in the app?**
    *   **Scene** – Sets specific lighting states (e.g. brightness per zone) that you can activate manually, or on a schedule using Automations.
    *   **Automation** – Automatically turns lights on/off at set times or relative to sunset/sunrise.
    *   **Area** – Groups multiple zones and/or controllers for synchronized control. Can also be used within an Automation.

### Smart Home Integration

*   **What platforms does the SLC support through Matter?**  
    The SLC is compatible with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and other Matter-enabled platforms.
*   **Can I control my lights using voice assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant?**  
    Yes. Once the SLC is paired with a Matter-compatible platform, you can use voice commands to control zones, activate scenes, or check the on/off status of your lights.
*   **Do I need to add the controller to my smart home app during setup, or can I do it later?**  
    You can add the controller to your smart home platform at any time. The Matter setup code (QR or numeric) is printed on the device and is also available in the Rachio app after onboarding. On Android devices, Pairing Mode can be accessed in the controller's settings in the Rachio app once paired to Rachio. For iOS devices, the SLC can be paired directly to the Apple Home app by "adding a new accessory".

### Installation & Power

*   **How is the SLC powered?**  
    The controller plugs into a standard 120V outdoor outlet using its built-in 3-foot power cord. No external transformer is needed.
*   **Does it require hardwiring or an external transformer?**  
    No. The SLC is a plug-and-play device. It converts 120V AC to low-voltage output internally and does not require additional transformers or electrical work.
*   **Where can I mount the controller?**
