# Summary

The controller needs to be connected to the wifi to update data, but you might be wondering what happens if your Wi-fi someway stops working. Will your schedules still run if your Rachio goes offline? Good news, we have all the answers below!

# What to Expect During Wi-Fi Disruptions

Most connectivity issues you might see are normal behavior; the Rachio controller's Wi-Fi features hinge on the reliability of:

* Your internet service provider (ISP)
*   Your in-home router and/or access point.

However, unless the device goes offline for an extended period of time,  **you won't experience any loss in functionality of your controller if you have a saved schedule**. In situations of more lengthy disconnects, we send out emails and push notifications to let you know your controller has been offline for 24 hours and needs to be power cycled (unplugged and plugged back in).

# Schedule Memory

If your Rachio device loses its Wi-Fi connection, it will continue to run based on the schedules stored on the controller's internal memory. However, during this time, weather-based features (such as Weather Skips) will not function, since the controller cannot access forecast data without an active wifi connection.

## Sprinkler controllers

* **Fixed Schedules:** The controller will continue running the last saved schedule indefinitely, as long as it remains powered on and has not been factory reset.
* **Flex Daily and Flex Monthly schedules:** the Rachio controller will not run the last saved schedule, as they are dynamic. Instead, we will create a two-week schedule based on the forecast for the upcoming two weeks. After the controller has been offline for those two weeks, it will revert to a Rachio-supplied default watering

## Smart Hose Timer

* **Fixed Schedule:** You can have up to 400 individual run events saved directly on the Timer Valve. This means that up to 400 runs will continue to water if the WiFi connection is interrupted. If you have a schedule that runs once a day, the Valve will continue to run for 400 days without internet.

#### Note

A factory reset clears the controller’s internal memory, including the locally stored schedule data that allows it to run programs offline. As a result, schedules will not run again until the controller reconnects to Wi-Fi and syncs with the cloud. Once the connection is restored, all schedules and settings saved in the app will automatically be re-downloaded to the controller.

# Track Offline History

Even when your controller is offline, it will still continue recording watering events and keeping track of which zones are watered when and how long it watered. Each watering event will be cached on the controller and then combined with your watering history once the controller comes back online.

#### Note

If your controller comes back online after an extended period of time, the water usage displayed in your history may be much higher than expected. No need to be alarmed! This is because the controller aggregates all of the cached watering events and reports them at one time; your controller is still watering normally. Want to double-check your water usage? # Clock Battery Backup

Each Rachio 3 controller contains a coin cell battery, which maintains the unit's internal clock in the event of a power outage. As a result, scheduled runs will resume at their appropriate times once power is restored to the device, even if the controller has not yet reconnected to your Wi-Fi.
