Encryption compatibility

This article will help you check your network's encryption to make sure it's compatible with your Rachio controller.

The Rachio can only work with WPA/WPA2-Personal or WPA/WPA2-PSK networks - it cannot connect to WEP, WPA2-Enterprise, or Open networks. You need to check on the phone's Wi-Fi settings as if you were connecting to a new network. Then tap on the network you're connected to.

Android: Most Android phones will show the encryption type on the security details about their home's network.

A compatible network should look like this:

That's how a non-compatible network should look like:

iPhones and iPads: iOS devices won't show the security type, but they do show a warning when it has a problem. This means it won't help if the network is WPA2-Enterprise.

This is the warning on WEP:

And this is the warning for open networks:

Additional Details: Most users are able to increase the security of the network in the router settings, however, some Internet Service Providers lock those options out and it may be necessary to reach out to them to make changes. The user will also have to reconnect all the devices from the house to the network.
