How Rachio works with Nest

Nest Integration

IN THIS ARTICLE

Rachio helps protect your neighbors by mitigating fire spread.

  • Rachio will automatically begin cycling through your sprinkler zones if your Nest Protect detects smoke.
  • Rachio saturates your outdoors and helps mitigate fire spread to your community, creating a defensible space around your home.

How does it work, exactly?

We're glad you asked! ;-)

If the Nest Protect reaches it's highest level of alert (emergency - level 3), Rachio will automatically run through each enabled zone for 5 minutes, two times. For example, if you have 8 enabled zones, the sprinklers will run for 80 minutes total. There is up to a 60 second latency between the time Nest Protect reaches emergency and the Rachio starts cycling.

Once these cycles start, they are unaffected by the Nest device, meaning you sprinklers will continue to run to completion, regardless of the Nest Protect status. If you want to stop your zones while they're running you can do so by logging into your Rachio app and clicking on the Stop button on your apps Activity Feed tab.

    Fun Nest Cam* Integration

Nest and Rachio can work together in other ways too! Utilizing the If This Then That (IFTTT) app, you can create recipes that allow Nest devices and the Rachio to interact with one another. For more details on IFTTT and recipes see  this article. Our customers have come up with some pretty creative recipes with this integration like turning on the sprinklers whenever the Nest Cam detects an animal for example.

Finally, if you have any suggestions on how else our integration with Nest could work  submit it as a feature request and we'll be sure to see what we can do!
